Q: Can I jump my truck now that I have OME suspension?
A: You CAN jump your truck, but it is not a good idea. While the Old Man Emu suspension parts are incredibly strong, the forces generated by jumping a vehicle are excessive, and it certainty is not recommended. There is no way to ensure you will not damage components or your vehicle. Remember, even Baja and Dakar trucks break, so will yours and it will not be covered by our warranty.
Q: I purchased a “Heavy Duty” Old Man Emu suspension. The ride is harsher than I expected. What could be wrong?
A: All of our suspension components are incredibly strong, so we would consider all our parts to be “heavy duty” compared to other suspension lines. Many times people do not understand the fact that we break up suspension options by weight the suspension is designed around. Most commonly we denote there are different parts for a stock/light load, medium load, and heavy load vehicle. These are NOT ranked in order of durability or strength.
At OME, instead of merely offering a suspension lift kit that’s little more than a compilation of parts aimed at raising your truck’s height, we offer a range of tuned and matched integrated systems, each offering varying degrees of comfort, load carrying capability & control characteristics.
If a suspension designed for carrying a heavy load is fitted to a stock weight truck, the ride will be negatively affected by the high spring rate. Such a misapplication will also “overlift” the vehicle, and result in a lack of wheel down travel. A lack of down travel could then damage shocks or strut over time.
Q: Someone is trying to sell me a coil I do not see listed in your Application Guide. Can I still run them if I want more lift?
A: Many vendors sell competition size or tall springs than we recommend along with other appropriate aftermarket parts (upper or lower control arms, etc.) to gain addition height. It is your responsibility to check with the vendor about any kit composed of a mixture of non-OME parts. Kits that involve spacers and other components are not engineered by ARB, thus we are not able to extend our warranty to these setups.
Q: I recently bought a lift kit from one of your dealers in the US, but I didn’t get the TÜV papers that my country demands when lifting a car. How will I be able to get a hold on these TÜV papers?
A: This is a really unfortunately as ARB doesn’t hold the local homologation documentation, so we are unable to assist directly.
To provide you with some background, in most countries in Europe there is local certification required on fitment of a range of aftermarket products, including suspension systems. When we release a new product, such as a suspension system, our European distributors provide samples to their local homologation office and coordinate for test fitment and approval. After this, they can then issue certificates for the product when selling to a customer in their market. The European dealer incurs significant costs for the initial homologation process along with a certification cost from their local office each time that they issue a certificate. If you did not purchase the kit through them, they may be hesitant to incur the certification costs for a suspension kit that they haven’t sold themselves.
ARB doesn’t undertake this costly homologation process as it is country/European specific and hence why we here in the Seattle or Melbourne offices cannot assist directly.
We strongly encourage that retail customers purchase from their authorized ARB dealers.
